Casement Windows — the honest version
What it is
A casement window is hinged at the side or top and opens outwards on friction stays. We fit them in Eurocell and Spectus uPVC and in slim aluminium, single-light or multi-light, with fixed panes, top-hung vents and side-hung opening sashes arranged to suit the room and the elevation.

How we install
- Every aperture is measured for square, plumb and level at survey — a 5mm out-of-square opening gets a bespoke frame, not extra packers.
- Frames fixed with expanding frame fixings into brick or block, never nailed through the outer skin.
- Load-bearing packers set under mullions and beneath opening sashes so weight transfers to the structure rather than the profile.
- Low-modulus silicone externally so the seal flexes with the building, expanding foam internally for insulation, nothing bridging the DPC.
- Drainage slots kept clear and cill ends sealed so water leaves the frame instead of sitting in the chamber.
- Every opener adjusted, locked and tested before handover, with hinge protectors fitted where required.

Should the windows open side-hung or top-hung?

We work it out room by room at survey. Side-hung gives the widest opening and is usually right for bedrooms needing escape; top-hung suits kitchens over a sink, rooms with radiators under the window and anywhere a swinging sash would block a path.
Do casement windows need trickle vents?

In most replacement situations, yes. Building Regs Part F requires background ventilation unless the property has proven whole-house ventilation. We confirm this at survey rather than leaving it as a surprise on fitting day.
Why has my existing casement started catching on the frame?

Almost always the friction stays. If they were undersized for the sash weight, the sash gradually drops until it fouls the frame. Sometimes a stay replacement fixes it; if the frame itself has distorted, replacement is the honest answer.
